This course comprehensively covers what you need to know about the general health of the patient and how it relates to dentistry. Â It includes reviewing the patient’s health history, various patient records, patient management, medical emergencies, and the mouth mirror inspection.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the components and purpose of a complete patient assessment, including medical/dental histories, vital signs, and factors that affect dental treatment.
- Accurately obtain, update, and document patient information in compliance with California laws, the Dental Practice Act, and HIPAA requirements.
- Identify normal and abnormal clinical findings and recognize when conditions must be brought to the supervising dentist’s attention.
- Properly chart and record existing conditions, treatments, and clinical observations using standard dental symbols, terminology, and documentation guidelines.
- Communicate relevant patient information to the dental team while maintaining infection control, safety protocols, and professional standards.
