Dental Practice Act for the New Hire

$75.00

This course is required for all dental healthcare personnel within the first year of employment in dentistry and periodically thereafter. In it, you’ll learn the laws, regulations, and ethical standards that govern dental practice in California. That may sound boring (ok, some of it may be), but some of it is exciting —such as how to become licensed as an RDA, RDAEF2, or RDH, what duties each dental team member is authorized to perform, and how to provide knowledgeable, skilled, and ethical care to every patient.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the purpose and scope of the Dental Practice Act and identify the laws and regulations that govern the practice of dentistry in California.

  2. Describe the roles, responsibilities, and licensure requirements for dental professionals, including DA, RDA, RDAEF, RDAEF2, RDH, RDHAP, and dentists.

  3. Identify the allowable and prohibited duties for each dental team member and recognize the required levels of supervision associated with those duties.

  4. Apply ethical and legal standards related to patient care, professional conduct, recordkeeping, informed consent, and patient confidentiality.

  5. Recognize violations and unprofessional conduct, understand mandated reporting requirements, and follow proper procedures for reporting, enforcement, and disciplinary actions.

Upon successful completion, you will be issued a certificate to verify your successful mastery of the course material.
