Radiation Safety (X-Ray) Certification

This X-Ray Certification Course (also called Radiation Safety ) is approved by the Dental Board of California.  Once you have completed this course, you will receive your California Dental X-Ray Certificate/License!

The didactic portion of this course is online via podcast videos, online quizzes, and a final exam.  Once you have passed the final exam online, the lab & clinical portions of this course will be completed in our office in Roseville.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the principles of dental radiography, including the physics of x-radiation, how dental X-ray machines operate, and the factors that influence image quality and exposure.

• Demonstrate knowledge of California laws and Dental Board of California regulations governing dental radiography, including who may expose radiographs, required supervision levels, and legal responsibilities related to radiation use.

• Identify radiation hazards and apply proper safety practices—including ALARA principles, appropriate shielding, equipment positioning, patient protection measures, and operator safety protocols.

• Develop proficiency in exposing, processing, and evaluating dental radiographs, including digital sensors, phosphor plates, and traditional film, with an emphasis on minimizing retakes and producing diagnostic-quality images.

• Recognize and implement infection control and quality assurance procedures specific to radiography to ensure safe, consistent, and compliant radiographic practices within the dental office.

At the successful completion of the didactic, lab, and clinical portions of this course, you will receive your Radiation Safety Certification.
