Pit and Fissure Sealant Certification

This course is required in order to be eligible to take the RDA exam. The didactic portion of this course is online via podcast videos, online quizzes, and a final exam. Â Once you have passed the final exam online, the lab & clinical portions of this course will be completed in our office in Roseville.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Understand the purpose and science behind pit and fissure sealants, including tooth anatomy, caries risk assessment, and how sealants prevent decay on occlusal surfaces.

Demonstrate knowledge of California laws and Dental Board of California regulations governing the placement of pit and fissure sealants, including eligibility, supervision requirements, and legal responsibilities for RDAs seeking this certification.

Identify indications and contraindications for sealant placement and select appropriate materials—such as resin-based and glass ionomer sealants—based on patient needs and clinical conditions.

Develop proficiency in performing the full sealant procedure, including tooth preparation, isolation, etching, rinsing, drying, sealant application, curing, evaluating retention, and managing common challenges like moisture contamination.

Apply proper infection control, patient safety, and equipment handling practices, including PPE, aseptic technique, instrument setup, and post-procedure evaluation, in accordance with California standards and best practices.
At the successful completion of the didactic, lab, and clinical portions of this course, you will receive your Pit and Fissure Sealants Certification.
