OSHA Training for the New Hire

$95.00

This Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) course should be one of the first courses you take in your new dental career.  All personnel with potential exposure to blood and other potentially infectious diseases must take an OSHA course prior to starting their new assignment on the job.  This regulation helps to ensure that all employers are providing a safe environment for their staff.

In this course, you will learn all about pathogenic organisms—those microscopic “bugs” that can make you sick—where they originate (come from), the illnesses they cause, how they spread from person to person, and the steps you can take to prevent infection. You’ll also be introduced to key technical terms, such as “engineering controls” and “exposure control plan”. Don’t worry!  We’ll explain everything in a clear, easy-to-follow way.  By the end of this course, you’ll feel confident and well-equipped to protect yourself from occupational exposure and stay safe at work!

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe OSHA’s purpose and requirements for protecting dental employees from workplace hazards, including exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials.

  2. Identify potential workplace risks in dental settings—such as sharps, chemicals, radiation, ergonomics, and aerosol exposure—and apply methods to minimize or eliminate these hazards.

  3. Follow required infection-control and safety practices, including proper use of PPE, sharps handling, sterilization workflows, hand hygiene, and engineering/work-practice controls.

  4. Interpret key OSHA standards relevant to dentistry, such as the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, Hazard Communication, and exposure control requirements, and apply them to daily tasks.

  5. Respond appropriately to workplace incidents or exposures, including reporting procedures, post-exposure protocols, documentation, and recordkeeping.

Upon successful completion, you will be issued a certificate to verify your successful mastery of the course material.
