Certification Courses

The certification courses listed below are required under California regulations.  The first two must be completed by all dental healthcare professionals, while the other three are mandatory if you intend to perform the procedures or skills associated with that certification.

ALL COURSES ARE APPROVED BY THE DENTAL BOARD OF CALIFORNIA

Infection Control Certification

This certification is required by the Dental Board of California for all unlicensed dental assistants before starting to work in patient care (before “potential exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials”).

Dental Practice Act

This certification is required of all dental healthcare workers within their first year of employment in a dental office.

Radiation Safety (X-Ray) Certification

This course is required in order to take x-rays in a dental office in California.  It includes a lecture, a lab, and a clinical component.

Coronal Polish Certification

Coronal polishing has recently become legal for unlicensed dental assistants to perform after completion of this coronal polish certification course.  It is also required in order for an unlicensed dental assistant to be eligible to take the RDA exam.  It includes a lecture, a lab, and a clinical component.

Pit and Fissure Sealant Certification

This Pit and Fissure Sealants Certification course is required in order for an unlicensed dental assistant to be eligible to take the RDA exam.  It includes a lecture, a lab, and a clinical component.
